Irksome Nurses
So Becca has the asthma thing. That means that she is on one pulmicort nebulizer treatment daily. If she has a cold or is coughing then she is supposed to have albuterol with the pulmicort. And two of those a day. Also two just albuterol treatments. Well, diluted with saline.
She woke up coughing fit to beat the band last night. And crying. And coughing this morning. So I gave her the first of the pulmicort and albuterol treatments. She was still coughing heavily an hour and a half later. So I called the allergist/asthma drs office to ask if I should give her a cough suppressant or if it was better for her to hack everything up. I explained that the cold had just shown itself last night and that I had already started her on the four times a day thing and asked my question about the cough suppressant.
I received a call back from a different nurse who had spoken to the dr about my call. I was told that when I was in the office I was given an Asthma Action Plan which told me to give Becca the four times a day treatments when she is coughing or has a cold. The nurse went into great detail about what that entailed. I kept trying to explain to her that I was already doing that. The general tone was that I had paid no attention to instructions at the appointment.
Now really! I can do a perfectly fine job of looking like a crappy mom on my own. I don't need nurses helping me.
When I finally explained WHY I had called and WHAT my question was, the nurse agreed that an hour and a half of heavy coughing after a treatment was a bit excessive. Instead of giving me an answer either way, I was told to see what happens after the next treatment.
But you can be dang sure we are still going trick-or-treating tonight.
