I just can't win.

My boys aren't really talkers yet.  Dougie says uh-oh, oh-no, bye, see ya, boo, no, yes, and pizza.  Magnus jsut said his first word last weekend and his second word yesterday.  His first word was 'boo!'.  He kept doing his really cute, funky dance jump and getting in Drew's face and shouting boo! and then disolving into hysterical giggles.  Poor Drew had to pretend to be frightened about 30-40 times in a row.  Yesterday, while Ben was cleaning up Magnus' diaper, Ben called him a poopypants.  Magnus said poopy back.

So last night we had an educational show on tv.  Discovery channels underwater volcanos.  Ben and I were having fun telling Dougie to say 'magma'.  He didn't.

This morning while I was fixing their sippies, Dougie walks up to me and very clearly says magma.  Very clear 'g' sound and everything.  The problem here?

Does either boys say 'mommy' yet?  No.  Dougie will say magma but screw the mommy bit.

Maybe when they are five.

I hearby bequeath half of Gavin's words on your boys. Because it would be nice if he would stop talking now and then. But I'm keeping 'Mommy'. :-P

Dougie's iteration of 'magma' the day after you and Ben had encouraged him to do so is an instance of 'deferred imitation' (I pay attention in my child psychology class, I do).
