Hair
Yesterday, while Becca was watching Upside Down Show Barbershop, I
remembered that she has been asking to get her hair cut again. I
called the Hairy Elephant and snagged the last appointment for the
day. Becca now has some really cute hair. It's a longish
bob, because we still need to be able to put her hair in ponytails.
The boys haven't had their hair cut since the middle of December.
Do you know that each haircut is $15? That would be dropping $45
every time I took all three kids in. And that is before
tip. Also, let's face facts. A crappy home haircut is a
rite of passage. And it's not as if they are at an age to care.
So we did the home haircut thing on the boys last night. With scissors, not clippers.
Magnus has had his hair cut professionally twice and Dougie once.
Both boys sat perfectly still and had no problems. Lately, Magnus
has been watching me fixing Becca's hair rather intently. If I
sit down with a comb he is racing to hop into my lap. I then have
to spend 5-10 minutes combing his hair. He loves it. So we
started with Magnus.
He spent the whole time moving around to point out hair for Ben to
sweep up. He could not sit still to save his life. I
chopped my finger. But all the girly curls are gone. His
hair doesn't look that different from the professional cuts except for
the hairline. They use a pretty small set of clippers at the
Hairy Elephant and I can't see getting around their ears with the
full-sized ones.
When I finally gave up on having it well even and it was Dougie's turn,
Magnus was upset that he wasn't getting all the attention
anymore. He pulled over another chair and handed Ben a
comb. Ben stood over him, combing his hair. Magnus was okay
for a short bit and then complained because I was using scissors on
Dougie's hair and Daddy was only using a comb on his. So Ben had
to clip scissors over Magnus' head while he combed. And that made
Magnus happy. And he sat perfectly still! Because he is
mean!
I tried to trim the neck hairline on Dougie. He sat still for
part of it, then started shaking his head. This left him with a
little rat tail in the corner. So, when the boys were in the bath
to wash off the hair, I grabbed the corners and snipped them.
I shouldn't do that when they are older. The corners of Dougie's neckline go in rather like puzzle pieces.
But, their hair is cut. We are good for probably about two months. And hopefully they will get used to it.

I take Gavin to sportclips. It's cheaper than the hairy elephant and they do a good job with boy haircuts.
