Sock love

Ben and I counted up the pairs of socks I have knit so far.  He  does not count the pedicure socks that were a Christmas gift.  Without those, my tally is 9 pairs.  I also have four singles waiting for mates.

Really, this should make me an expert, right?

First up for your viewing pleasure this evening.

Garter Rib Socks from Sensational Knitted Socks.  Austermann Step yarn.

Let's pretend that you aren't staring at my crotch or the tv in the background.  Hey, I am wearing clothes.

Do you see how perfectly the pattern matches?  I am a matching master.  Look, the speckles of dark blue even swirl in opposite directions!

These are pair number three for myself.  Pair number one are the very first pair I made and are oversized.  The second pair for myself are my Christmas socks made from sport weight.  This pair is the first pair of socks knit on size 1 needles for me.  They feel squishy and sproingy when I walk in them.  And yet, they are my sleeping socks.  Because I want to wake up with nice feet.  And the Aloe Vera and Jojoba of the yarn help with that.

Next.  Jaywalker sock.  Yes, just sock.  Interlacements Tiny Toes in Tapestry.  Larger pattern size.  Size 0 needles for ribbing and 1s for the rest of the sock.

Don't you love how my leg appears to be square?

This sock has been an exercise in agony.  I purchased this yarn right after I finished the first sock ever.  Which was made with Lion Brand Magic Stripe yarn.  After I decided that I could really like this sock knitting thing, I went for the nicer stuff.  There were three different attempts with the regular pattern size.  I started with Inox needles.  Too much grip.  Did I mention I'm a touch of a tight knitter?  THe sock was about 3.5 inches long when I realized I couldn't get it on my foot.  I tried Knit Picks needles.  Still too small to put on.  I discovered this at a 6 inch long sock.  It seemed better than the Inox sock.  Another Knit Pick needle attempt.  With a looser tension.  Couldn't maintain.  Another attempt.  With a size 2 needle.  It looked too airy.  Final attempt was a success.  And then I got to the gusset decreases.  Who needs to read the pattern?  All socks go down to the original count of stitches per needle, right?  On to the toe and started the toe decrease.  What the hey? Where the heck do you get that number?  Oh.  Ooops.  Rip back to the gussets.

But the second one has been started.  Let me assure you that I now really dislike this yarn.  And yet I have put too much work into this to ever give it away.

I am building a nice stash of sock yarn.  And I open my storage tub of yarn and smile and pet it and sniff it and I'm happy.
