Ramblings
I am looking forward to Christmas. And no, I'm not early. I'm running behind this year. I generally start getting excited on July 5. Yes, yes, I have made plans on things to knit for people and started on some of them. But that's not what I am excited about.
My boys actually have interests. Specific toys. That they sit and play with for extended periods of time. And they are getting the gift thing. Last year it was more of a 'Why is there paper on this toy? Oh well, I will go ahead and take it off.' But not something they were truly getting into. If that makes sense at all.
Except for Magnus. He still doesn't seem to have specific interests yet. His joy is in taking away whatever his brother or sister is interested in and running around laughing and waving it while they freak.
Dougie has discovered the Pixar Cars movie. He would like it watch it daily. Becca used to call Lightning McQueen 'Lightning THE Queen'. Dougie calls him 'Ike-ning' or sometimes just Ike. Everything is cars. At random times you will find him sitting on the sofa in the family room in front of the blank tv asking to watch cars.
They are both into trains. Dougie has a fondness for Percy for some reason. Magnus will roll the trains around and rebuild the track for some time. He has started going choo-choo. Which I am very excited about, because he still isn't talking. But he wasn't making the toy noises before, either so we have progress.
I will be getting more and more antsy until November when I allow myself to start the shopping.
And this is all without me showing all the kids how to make paper chains and other festive crafts. I will be going overboard on that.
I am also excited about Becca getting regular birthday party invitations. About how we can now take all three kids out to the zoo and have them all actually look at the animals and enjoy the visit. About how we are going to the circus in November (already have the tickets). About how we are planning pleanty more outings all together.
AND, the boys are signed up in a Kids Day Out program once a week. They love school so they have a blast. Ever since Becca started school back up they are at the door with their backpacks. Their first full day is next Friday. They get out at 3:00. Becca gets out at 11:30. We will have a good 3 hours of Mommy/Becca time when we can do things that are too hard to do with the boys also. Becca has been wanting to go to the Butterfly House, but I have a fear of the boys stomping on any butterflies they see. Which tends to be frowned upon.
For our first day, Becca has selected the art museum. Which is also something that doesn't work well with the boys. I am planning on trips to the Science Center, The Magic House, Butterfly House and possibly City Museum. All places where we are out-numbered by kids and they would all take off in different directions. Any other suggestions?

You are completely overlooking the best holiday of the entire year! October is where it's at, not December. ;-)
