Night-time travels
Most nights, Becca wakes up at some point, heads down the hall to our room, climbs into our bed and goes right back to sleep. I was coming out of the boys’ room one night and caught her on her journey. The impression I received was of just moving by rote. This is apparently not the case. Some nights she shows up empty-handed. This morning, I woke up to Becca, her flashlight, her sippy, a...
Reminder
The boys’ party is tomorrow at 3.
Music
Dougie plays the kazoo. He does not yet play tunes. This
means that it sounds as though our house is populated with sick ducks.
Freedom!
The boys’ car seats have been turned forward-facing. I can’t even
begin to say what a difference this has made in getting out of the
house.
If you are coming in from the side, a rear-facing car seat is no big
deal. If you have them in the back row of a mini-van, with two of
them side-by-side, (I’m really liking -, can you tell?) it’s
hell. You have to lift the child...
Happy Birthday
Today is the boys’ first birthday. We have started off the great
festivities by allowing them to come down the stairs on their own and
everyone is having doughnuts for breakfast.
If you feed Magnus a doughnut, he sits there with a silly smile on his
face and looks as though he has been sniffing glue. I think this
mean he likes it.
If you feed Dougie a doughnut, he tears through it and...
a conversation
Me: Becca, help!
Me: Help me, Becca!
Me: Magnus got me!
Becca: I am busy trying to color. When I am done coloring, I can come help you.
My child will not be one of those you hear about in the news that saves their mother’s life by calling 911.
Sticky
I put on a pair of nice, clean jeans this morning. After a mere 45 minutes, they were no longer clean.
I am now suffering from ‘sticky butt’.
That is STICKY, not STINKY.
And, no, it is not a problem with my own behind. Someone, I can’t
imagine who, seems to have spread a nice layer of Jello on the
chair. If you spread the Jello out and let it dry some, it is not
noticable....
We have a first!
For the first time ever in the history of Becca, she asked to go upstairs and lie down on her bed so that she could go to sleep.
And she is now asleep.
Before 6:30.
But she had a big day with family coming over and you could see her getting worn out from high-octane playing.
So I am hoping she sleeps through.
And Magnus is asleep.
And Dougie is working on it.
And the really sad thing is...
Mother's Day Parade
Ben and I sat in the living room and watched the parade go past.
First was Becca, riding her tricycle. Followed by Magnus, walking
behind holding onto the back of her seat. And finally, Dougie,
walking on his own and waving TWO sippy cups.
We had family over today. Uncle Drew came along. I played
what Becca calls ‘Uncle Drew’s song’, which is Franki Valli’s...
Walking
Magnus just took his first two unassisted steps. He also did some dance moves before the steps.
Mother's Day
I was given my first of hopefully many homemade Mother’s Day cards
yesterday. Becca made it at school. I admired it and then
tried to hang it up. At which point Becca informed me that since
it read ‘love, Becca’ it was her card.
I was not allowed my own Mother’s Day card.
I was able to distract her with candles, which gave me the chance to take it away from her and...
Shoes
I purchased the boys’ first shoes in the middle of April. I have
tried to put them on them several times, and Dougie especially will
just sit there and cry.
We went to Laurie’s Shoes and had them fitted.
I called Laurie’s Soes today so that I could find out if they had
softer shoes in their sizes or if I should just plain out return the
shoes.
The salesman asked me if they...
Tooth
Dougie’s first tooth has completely broken through the gums.
I know this because he just bit my nose.
Vacation
Time to start planning family vacation 2006. Last year the plan
was for Williamsburg, VA. The boys were of an age where they
would be content to sit in their stroller and be pushed around.
This year, not the case.
So that takes out historical stuff. Also, I started looking at
hotels around VA. Not really keen on the idea of shifting from
hotel to hotel. Wanted a night or two on the...

Last night was gym class. Class starts at 5:30, so there isn’t
much time for dinner. Ben picked up a chicken nugget happy meal
for Becca on the way home. Becca started eating her nuggets and
bit her tongue. After crying a bit, she sat on the sofa with Ben
and fell asleep.
This morning, when I left the kitchen for a moment, she pulled her
happy meal out of the fridge and is eating cold...
Cute
Becca is riding her tricycle around the house in slow circles.
Magnus is holding onto the back of the seat walking behind her.
It’s really nice to watch Becca being all excited about Magnus using
her as a walker. She is being careful to go slowly so that he can
keep up.
Bottle war
Because I am a bad (read: lazy) mommy, theboys still take their naps in their non-bouncy seats downstairs in the family room.
Today for afternoon nap, I prepared two bottles and set them in between
the seats. Dougie was acting sleepy, so I stuck him in his chair
with one bottle. Magnus was happily playing under the kitchen
table and pushing chairs around, so I left him. Magnus just
decided...
I hate when Becca naps
I would greatly prefer that my child never nap. Any time she does
nap, no matter the duration, she is up until at least 10:30. At
her Kids Day Out, they nap. Every Friday night is a Becca late
night.
Yesterday, she ended up crashing on the floor at 5:30. Way too
early for her to sleep through. Ben woke her at 6:30. That
is a nap of one hour.
9:45 I take her upstairs to bed. She did not...
Birthday Party Plans
Bubees first birthday is fast approaching. We will be having a
party. If you would like to attend, please either comment or
email me. Gifts are not necessary.
There will be much play in the backyard. If it is rainy, there will be much play in the playroom and the living room.
You will have the joy of watching Dougie strolling around.
Perhaps even Magnus, as he has a bit of time to begin. ...
Dirt and rocks
Ben built me a wonderful soil sifter on Sunday. You may not have
noticed, but it has been a teensy bit wet lately, so I have been unable
to use it.
I decided to try it tonight. From 7:30 to 10pm, I sifted
soil. For my hours of labor I have 4 feet of large rock free
soil, nicely mixed in with compost. I also have a bag of rocks
which is almost too heavy for me to lift. I worked on...
Teething
Yesterday morning, on two seperate occassions, Dougie was sitting on
the floor by himself, when he suddenly screamed and grabbed his
ear. Not a happy sounding scream, rather as though he had fallen
down the stairs pain scream.
Okay. Both boys have had runny nose colds since waking up
Wednesday morning. Probably an ear infection. I had just
looked at his gums the other day to see if there were...
