I received one of those nice little updates from the Social Security Admin this week.  If I stop working now, which I have, at age 62 I will receive $630/month.  If I continue working until my full retirement age (67) I will receive $895/month.  So, if I work another 37.25 years, the benefit to me for social security is only an additional $265/month.  I fail to see much benefit.  Keep in mind that this is based off of me working 13 (I’ve actually worked 14 years, 2002 is not yet recorded)  the first four of which had a max income year of just over 5k.  How can I build up so much over a relatively few low income years, but once I’ve reached a better salary, and continue there for 37 years, I would get so little?  Don’t you think this should make me want to rush out and get more employment?  No!  Pretty pathetic.
