I had my first ob appt. today. This is the same dr who delivered Becca. He just changed practices in June. Apparently, the drs in the new practice delivered his children, so that is a good reccomendation in my book.
Anywho, I never felt any connection with this dr previously. Not necessarily his fault or mine. I didn’t see him until the last month, because we had been going to his brother, who stopped deliveries at the end of the year. I didn’t think he was terribly personable at the time. Who would be though, if you just had to pick up all of your brother’s ob patients? I figured I would go ahead and see him for this pregnancy because he strikes me a quite a good dr, and I would rather have a dr I trust that a dr I am buddies with.
This appt went great. I feel very good about seeing this dr. MUCH more personable than prior. There might have been other problems at the other practice for all I know. He will be doing an ultrasound next appt. at 11 weeks to make sure the placentas aren’t fused. Then we will get an ultrasound at the halfway point. After that, an ultrasound monthly to check the babies growth. I will be seeing him every four weeks until 28 weeks, then every 2. This is, or course, assuming that we have no problems prior to this.
He told me that most twin deliveries are at 35 weeks and he will try to get me to 37. I asked if this meant that he wouldn’t let me go past 37. He doesn’t seem to feel that there is any chance of that at all.
The part that suprised me was him saying that if both babies were head down, we could do a VBAC. He pointed out that it isn’t gauranteed to work. Also, there is the 1% risk of uterine rupture. I told him I would stick with c-section for now. He seemed relieved at that, but did say to feel free to bring it up if I change my mind.
I won’t get the glucose test until 24 weeks. Having had the gestational diabetes before, plus the multiple pregnancy, he is going to skip the one hour and go straight to the three hour. This means that in 17 weeks, I will be asking Angela to watch Becca for several hours in the morning. Hope that’s not a problem.
I think that’s all that got covered. Who knows. I might remember something else later.
