I have finally calculated the difference in our taxes from years 2000, 2001 and 2002, with the addition of the in vitro costs. Please remember that the prior acountant told us that these costs were not deductable. I foolishly trusted them. I have since checked the IRS website, and found that they are allowable.
There was no change in 2002. Not terribly suprising, as that is the year that we did the frozen cycle with Becca, and it only cost $2700.
In 2001 we did a fresh cycle, for a cost of $9500. The difference this has made to our refund is $1059, in our favor.
In 2000 we did a fresh cycle, for a cost of $8800 (their prices went up the following year). We also did a frozen cycle for a cost of $2300. Being a prior year, we also made a bit less money. Originally, we paid $1288. We should have recieved a refund of $624. That is a total of $1912, in our favor.
I come up with a grand total of $2971 that we are owed by the government. I now have an appt on Monday morning to let a different acct. file the paperwork, as I have no clue how to actually go about filing an amended return.
I feel that this was time well spent.
