Tuesday night I was woken up at 1am by bad back pain. It was the kidney pain again. I woke up Ben, who was so tired that all he said was, ‘you sound like you are in pain’ and pretty much went straight back to sleep. I tried many different things to get it to go away without having to wake a lot of people and go to the hospital. I finally found a position that worked. If I sat with my left butt cheek on the bed and pointed out my right leg, it went away. After about half an hour of that, I was able to go back to sleep.
Last night, while falling asleep, I had the thought that I really need to pack my hospital bag. Once again, I was woken up by the kidney pain. My super pose didn’t work this time. I got up and gathered an item or two and put them in my hospital bag. The pain went away. Back to sleep. Woke up again, gathered more stuff, put in bag, back to sleep. This happened about 4 times. My hospital bag is now packed except for the daily toiletries that can be tossed in at the last minute and the cookies and fig newtons that have been waiting for me to eat them.
For the record, Becca went to sleep at 6:30 last night. If we had had to get up and take her somewhere, she wouldn’t have gone back to sleep until 4 am. I couldn’t do that to anyone. Next time, however, I have already warned Ben that if this pain starts in the middle of the day, I am not going to bust my brains trying to stop it on my own.
I am thinking, I could be wrong, that the drs might choose to take the boys out at this point instead of giving me the high doses of morphine. We are currently 34 weeks 4 days. 34 weeks is when twin lungs are supposed to be mature. Also, as my one dr likes to keep stressing, 35 weeks is the average delivery time for twins.
For the record, since I have gotten up today, my belly has not relaxed at all. It seems to be a permanent braxton-hicks. And did I mention all the contractions and cramping I have had over the past week? But really, what do I know about labor?
